ABOUT THE ARTIST
Self-taught Kenyan artist Joseph Bertiers has never ventured outside of his country, his paintings on wood depict events of international consequence. War, politics, terrorism, natural and man-made disasters, celebrity scandals, heads of state: he takes no prisoners, and like the press, leaves the matter of reaction to the viewer. Gathering his source material from newspapers, magazines, and television, Bertiers covers the world – from Columbine to Baghdad, from Bush to bin Laden – in a unique painting style that is colorful, energetic, and laced with irony and humor.
