WE'RE HIRING

GALLERY ASSOCIATE

PART-TIME / IN-PERSON

ABOUT TRACK 16

Track 16 is one of Los Angeles's longest-running contemporary art galleries — over 31 years in operation, with two locations in East Hollywood and Downtown LA. We represent a roster of about 20 artists and mount 10–12 exhibitions per year across both spaces.

THE ROLE

We're looking for someone to be knowledgeable, engaged, and genuinely comfortable talking about contemporary art with anyone who walks through the door: collectors, curious walk-ins, curators, press. You'll work closely with the gallery director and our head art preparator.

Candidates should have a professional and friendly demeanor and excellent communication skills. We all work together to make sure the gallery is open on time, and clean and professional in appearance.

The role includes greeting and interacting with visitors, but there’s real downtime between visitors when additional responsibilities can be tackled that contribute to the gallery's broader operations and communications.

Aspects of the role & skills we’re looking for (we don’t expect a mastery of all of these):

  • Participate actively in sales: presenting work, answering questions, following up with interested visitors, and helping advance conversations toward a close
  • It’s important to have writing, editing and communication skills for correspondence, press releases, and social media. The job will entail contacting press, curators, artists, and collectors.
  • Attend 1–2 evening events per month (openings, artist talks)
  • Core computer skills are essential. Knowledge of Adobe, Google, and Microsoft suites is a strong plus. We also use Filemaker Pro.
  • Creating social media marketing (posts, stories, posts on the fly, and more planned content)
  • Exhibition planning support and coordination with artists on upcoming shows
  • Building and maintaining individual artist profile pages on our website, based on an established structure
  • Press support — distributing releases, following up on coverage, researching press leads based on the exhibition
  • Video editing of artist talks and exhibition documentation (a strong plus, not a requirement)
  • Basic art preparator skills (good to have, but not mandatory)
  • Solid grounding in art history and fluency in contemporary art — you follow what's happening in Los Angeles and care about it
  • Interested in a career in the gallery world — this role can grow with the right person
  • Gallery, museum or institutional experience is preferred but not required
